we foster creativity in youth
through free children’s yoga classes
by empowering volunteers to give back
Yoga Foster is a nonprofit initiative that brings free kids yoga programs to schools and community centers. Our classes blend kids yoga poses and breathing with storytelling and problem-solving to help get kids fit, inspired, and more creative.
As part of our programs, we provide all the yoga mats and other resources needed to support yoga initiatives, training for teachers and other staff that might want to run the class on their own, and volunteers to lead and assist each class when needed.
With support from yoga studios and brands, along with passionate community leaders and our volunteers, we have worked with over 100 students since our launch in the summer of 2012. Currently, we have yoga programs in the Lower East Side, Bronx, and Brooklyn.
Creativity is as important now in education as literacy and we should treat it with the same status.
Our programs use yoga as a way to encourage creativity in each and every child, regardless of their academic or emotional level. Our Three C’s Approach uses traditional children’s yoga and storytelling methods to enhance levels of clarity, confidence, and collaboration for each child, so week by week the instructors can measure their lesson plan’s effect on each student, and adjust accordingly.

Helping students understand who they are, and who they want to be, through reflection, discussion, and self-discovery through each class.
Showing children that effort is worth more than achievement, and encouraging them to make mistakes, speak their mind, and share their opinions without fear.
Bringing diverse minds and ideas together through partner poses, games and challenges that help children work together in a positive, peaceful way.
Our curriculum was designed for youth, directly from experiences working in public schools in NYC. From the basic poses and breathing techniques to theories on creative development and how to communicate difficult topics, our comprehensive curriculum spans online and off in videos, in-person trainings, consultations, and more.
